Vector Fun...
It's been a day of vector drawing for me and I've finally got what Freehand is all about. Working with vectors is certainly a lot different to working with bitmaps and stuff. Everything is still totally editable and allows you to change minor things.
It certainly makes a change from working in Photoshop although there were a few annoying things that happened. When moving objects around with the arrow keys, every movement is recorded so if you hold it down for a second or two, it records about 20 movements. This isn't normally a problem but when you forget to select every point in the image, then move it, it distorts it. Then you go to hit Ctrl + Z and it just goes back through each movement. I had to start again due to that. It's more operator error I suppose than computer error.
I'm quite happy with the way my logos are going at the moment, having 4 ready for next weeks presentation should be no problem. I'm quite enjoying designing the logos, it's quite challenging at times. Making sure the golden ratio of logo design is present along with if it looks good painted on the head of a pin. Exploring different ideas with each logo is also good, just slightly changing an element can have a massive effect overall.
A thing that increasingly gets more worrying as time goes on is the Sketchblog task. Is it too far to claw back now? It's something that I am trying to improve and I came across a website which shows the progression of an idea into an actual piece of work. It was something I found interesting and it would be interesting to look back in my own sketchbook to see how I actually got there.

It is amazing how the feel of logos can change by just tweaking a few things, definitely. I've found that from some of the early development work I've done with my logos so far.
I've gone from cute and fluffy with one logo, to a bit more serious and edgy. It's just knowing what to change to make it have the feel you're looking for that's the hard part.
The sketchbook assignment isn't too far to claw back. I mean our feedback group had it on the agenda for meetings and it is just a case of going through the assignment sheet and checking off the criteria.
I hope they don't have to painted on the end of a pin because I can guarentee one or two of mine may not, but that is what the Crit session is for isn't it.
