Return Of The Book Club...
This weekend, I finally got a book that I've been wanting to get since the London trip. After looking around the very inspirational Alan Fletcher exhibit, I decided to get a book that took him nearly 15 years to write and finish. I can see why when looking through, at a mere 690 pages its quite a read. The Art of Looking Sideways is probably one of the weirdest yet good books I've ever looked at. If you're expecting to see lots of Fletchers vast portfolio then you'd be wrong.
The book is filled to the brim with little stories and anecdotes about things such as ideas, dreams, colour and so on. It can seem totally random at times and the book doesn't have any style consistency to it at all really, but I think that's one of the things that make it an interesting read. You'll find yourself turning the book upside down, at an angle, on its side and any other combination just to read.
I would recommend it to anyone to be honest, it makes you think about design more in a much broader sense.

How much did you manage to pick it up for James? I think I'm going to buy it when I eventually got the dosh packet at the end of the month.
And a newer one: Picturing & Poeting

Thanks for that Steve. I will certainly look into some of those books.
Craig, the cheapest I'd seen it was Amazon to be honest. Around £16 with super saver delivery.
Now you can see why I didn't bring the book into college, especially now I'm on me bike!
It is great book for getting ideas from! my friend also has "TAOLS" and he says the only downfall is it's lack of an index.
But I believe that the erratic layout of the book encourages you to spend time reading other things(a bit like browsing the internet?)so you can't just use it as a reference book.
It's more like a way of life!
