Formative Statement
After finishing school in 2002 I decided to go on to further education as my main goal at that age was to go to university. At that point I didn’t really have an idea of what I wanted to do at university apart from it had to be something media or design orientated. This is reflected in my eclectic choice of subjects at college; A-levels in Media and Photography along with AS-levels in Graphic Design, Business and I.C.T. Once I had finished college and got my desired results, I enrolled at Huddersfield University to study Advertising, Media & Design Management. The course really wasn’t something I was hoping for. The lectures didn’t seem very structured and I seemed to learn very little during the course. With a feeling like I’ve just wasted a year of my life, I decided that in the new academic year, I would change to Multimedia. I thought that this would be the one but after time, I again found that it wasn’t really the course for me.
After dropping out of university, I decided to focus on a career in web design. At this time I was working for the Arctic Monkeys who were getting quite successful and that their mass exposure may help me a get a job. Unfortunately it didn’t and decided that a formal qualification would help immensely in my career path.
Now I’ve started at Wakefield College, I’m really enjoying the HND Interactive Media course and I’ve learnt more in the first week than I did in two years of university. The lectures are very web orientated unlike the other courses I have attended. I plan on putting all my efforts into this course to get the best possible results I can get.
Once I’ve finished the course, it would be nice to make my qualification into a degree to give it a bit more weight in the workplace and hopefully securing me a nice job in the Interactive Media industry.
